Monsal Dale
Monsal Dale, located between Bakewell and Buxton, is one of the most popular walking areas in the Peak District. Below Monsal Head, the River Wye is crossed by Headstone Viaduct, built to carry the main railway line from Derby to Manchester, but which now carries walkers and cyclists on the Monsal Trail. Since the line's closure in 1968, the view of the viaduct from Monsal Head has become one of the most iconic images of Britain's lost railway network.
