Cromford | |||
Although only ever a small village, Cromford stands tall in the history of the modern world, for it was there in 1771 that Richard Arkwright built his first cotton mill. In that mill, he pioneered the ideas of modern factory working, making Cromford the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution. Today, Arkwright's mill is preserved as a museum, while the village still contains many of the buildings he constructed for his workers and their families. | |||
